はじめに

Lenovo ThinkCentre M75s Gen 5を購入しました。ECCメモリの認識も確認できたので画像ペタペタ貼っていきます。

調達の経緯(長い)

元々、TX1320 M2で構築しているProxmox VEクラスタのリプレース&アップグレード候補を探していて、希望としては以下がありました。

  • コア数は6C/12T以上にしたい(今は4C/4Tと4C8Tの混在)
  • Ceph用に10GbEを導入したい(今は1GbE)
  • ECCメモリが使えた方が良い(今と同じ)
  • リモートからの電源と画面操作ができて欲しい(今は2台がKVMライセンスありのiRMC、1台はiRMC基本機能のみ)
  • 今と同じくらいの騒音レベル

調達の比較対象としてはECCが使えそうかで足切りして、以下のものをピックアップ。数年悩んでるから結構こちゃまぜ。

Fujitsu TX1320 M5は安牌とは分かっているものの若干割高感があり、Fujitsu TX1320 M6なんかは高すぎて全く手が出そうにありません。
DELL PrecisionはSFFの後継機種が出る気配が無いし、HP Elite SFFはRyzen Proを国内で扱っていないように見えます。
コスト的に視野に入れても良いのは、実質的にはThinkCentreかDeskMeet X600くらいではないかと考えあぐねていました。

X600はキューブ型に近いので、TX1320 M2の置き換えを考えると空間整理が必要で今一つ食指が伸びないのと、3台分も自分で組むのが面倒というのもあり、どうせ必要になるSSD周りを細々集めていました。
できればASRockさんからDeskslim( COMPUTEX:ASRock、AM5対応のスリムベアボーン「DeskSlim」や55型8Kゲーミング液晶準備中 - エルミタージュ秋葉原 )が出るのを待って決めたいと思っていたのですが、今のところ続報がありません。

そんな折、ThinkCentre M75s Gen 2でのECCメモリ動作報告がRedditに放り込まれているのを見つけました。

ということは、後継機種であるM75s Gen5も当然ECCが動くのでは?という期待感が出てきて、少しやる気がわいてきます。
カタログスペック ThinkCentre_M75s_Gen_5_Spec.pdf を見てもチップセットは AMD Phoenix PRO 665 と書かれていて、ハード面では問題が無さそうに見えます。OS一覧にUbuntuと明記されているのも安心材料です。
フラッシュ BIOS アップデート (AMD Phoenix) - ThinkCentre M75s Gen 5, M75t Gen 5 - Lenovo Support JP を見て、リリースレターでECCへの言及があるかを調べましたが、それは無さそうでした。

ここから先は人柱かなということで、楽天リーベイツで20%還元の日に購入したのが届いたので、まずはハードウェアのファーストインプレッションとECCメモリ周りの画像だけペタペタ貼りたいと思います。

ハードウェアを見て回る

外箱は割とコンパクトですね。配送されるときは後ろで見切れている外箱があって、ただの二重段ボール状態です。

中身はこれだけ。簡素。ゴミが少ないのは良いことです。梱包材もケースを支えるやつくらいしか入っていませんでした。

前面パネル。電源ボタンはあるけどリセットボタンはありません。

背面パネル。PCIeスロットは4つあるように見えるのですが、マザーボードでコネクタ実装されてるのは1段目(x16)と3段目(x1)の2個だけです。
ノリで背面のUSBスロット追加しましたけど、冷静になったら完全に無駄でした。

まずケースの蓋を開けただけのところ。CPU FANがブロワ―タイプなので筐体内のエアフロ―は少し気になります。

ケースパネルを外したところ

メモリにアクセスしようと思うと、フロントパネルを外してストレージケージを外す必要があります。
USBポート上の赤いシールが貼ってあるところの下に留め具があるので、それを下からエイヤと持ち上げると外せるのですが、とても硬かったです。個体差なのかどうかは今のところ不明。

とりあえず最初の目的であるECCメモリの動作確認のため KSM56E46BD8KM-32HA (DDR5 ECC UDIMM 32GB)を2枚挿して起動します。

ECC動きそう

最初から入っているWindows11の初期セットアップは適当に処理して、おもむろにwin32_physicalmemoryを叩いてBit幅を確認します。

やりました。DataWidthが64BitのところTotalWidthが72BitなのでECCのパリティ信号が通ってそうです。
BIOSバージョンは M4RKT2BA (見る限り2024/12/27時点で最新)です。

それが確認出来たらWindowsに用は無いので、付属の256GB NVMeにはProxmox VEを入れます。
Proxmox VE 8.3を入れましたが、デフォルトでEDACがロードされて認識できています。

消費電力

消費電力は撮影動画から切り取ったものなので少し見にくいですが、参考に貼り付けておきます。
初期構成からの変更点は8GBメモリを32GBメモリ2枚に差し替えたのみです。
LANも接続されていませんが、モバイルディスプレイの画面出力のためにUSBから電源供給が少しだけあります。

Proxmox VEを入れた後のものは、別途クラスタ構築が完了してから再取得することにします。

要調達事項

以下はどちらも個人的な都合によるものです。

  1. SATA SSD用の電源コネクタ
  2. 電源Pin結線用の2.0mm/2.54mmピッチ変換ケーブル
    • 手元にはこれまたノリで購入したNanoKVM-PCIeがあるのですが、NanoKVM-PCIe側のピンは2.54mmピッチで、M75s側のコネクタは2.0mmピッチなので、このままでは上手く繋がりません。ピッチ幅を何とか出来る部材の調達は今後の課題
    • DASHで完結出来れば問題ないとは思うのですが、BIOS画面を操作する以上のことをしようとするとKVMが壊れることが分かっています…

とりあえずMy new gearしたので一旦撮って出し。
このあと同等構成品を2台と10GbE周りを整えて新しいProxmox VEクラスタを作ってベンチマークして旧クラスタからの引っ越しをしないといけないので、順調にいってもあと半年くらいかかりそうです。
旧クラスタくん、もう少し耐えてくださいお願いします。
